SAT Preparation




SAT test stands for Scholastic Assessment Test. It is administered by the College Board and evaluates the verbal, written and mathematics proficiency of students who are seeking admission to undergraduate courses. The SAT exam is designed to test you on the skills you have learned in high school. The English reading and writing sections, including the optional essay, is an essential component which will help you improve your overall score and get into the college of your choice.
  
How many segments does SAT have?

The SAT exam has four segments as follows:
  • Reading - 65 minutes
This segment has 52 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) based on passages or pairs of passages. The topics range from literature to history to social sciences and natural sciences.
  • Writing and Lanugage - 35 minutes
In this segment you will have to answer 44  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) that are designed to test your knowledge in Grammar, Vocabulary and Editing.
  • Mathematics - 80 minutes (25 minutes for no-calculator section and 55 minutes for calculator-used section)
Here you are required to answer 58 questions (20 questions in the no-calculator section & 38 questions in the calculator-use section). You will be tested on your knowledge of different mathematical concepts like Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry.
  • Essay (Optional) - 50 minutes
You have to write 1 Essay in response to a given prompt where you have to explain how the author has given a persuasive argument to prove his/her point of view.

What is PSAT Exam?

PSAT test or NMQST stands for Preliminary SAT or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It is an excellent platform to prep yourself for SAT. Besides, the score you get here is used to award National Scholarships.

How many segments does PSAT have?

The PSAT exam has four segments as follows:
  • Evidence - Based Reading - 60 minutes
  • This segment has 47 questions designed to test your skill in reading and critically analyzing passages. The topics range from literature to history to social sciences and natural sciences.
  •   
    • Writing and Language - 35 minutes
    In this segment you will have to answer 44  questions based on Grammatical concepts like subject-verb agreement, punctuation and parallel construction. You will also be tested on the correct use of transitional phrases and sentence placement.
      
    • Mathematics - 70 minutes (25 minutes for no-calculator section and 45 minutes for calculator-used section)
    Here you are required to answer 47 questions on different mathematical concepts like Algebra, Data Analysis and Advanced Maths.

You will be scored on a scale of 320 to 1520. You will receive a Scaled Score, 2 cross -test scores and 7 sub-scores.

SAT vs. PSAT: SAT scores are taken into consideration for college admission whereas the PSAT is  like a trial run to test your preparedness for the SAT. The PSAT score has no bearing on the admission procedure.
  
I give extra sessions for doubt-clearing so that the student goes to sit for the exams completes.
